Common causes of dental erosion includes food products that reduce dry mouth. Dry mouth is a condition in which your body does not produce enough saliva. To help reduce additional saliva in your mouth, try chewing sugarless gum after meals or eat crunchy foods with a high water content. The more saliva you have in your mouth, the less likely you are to suffer from dental emergency and cavities.

A family history of dental erosion and other environmental factors can increase your risk. Furthermore, acid reflux disease, heartburn, and an excessive consumption of sugars and starches can all lead to an increase in dental erosion. To help combat these risks, always be sure to keep your mouth clean by brushing and flossing on a daily basis. Supplementary cleaning utensils including mouthwash and tongue scrapers are also highly beneficial. If traditional tools such as toothbrushes and dental floss are not working effectively, or if you do not have the muscle strength to use them properly, switch to eat easier-to-operate tools such as electric toothbrushes and water flossers.
